Couture / Bespoke Dressmaking

nic-homepagePeople often ask me to explain the difference between a Couturier and a Dressmaker.

Well, that’s a good question because the term ‘Couturier’ translates quite literally as ‘Dressmaker’. The difference is that in France the practice of dressmaking is much more involved than buying and perhaps adjusting a commercial pattern and therefore a much more highly respected profession.

A Couturier is a designer, a pattern cutter, a maker…a creator of something unique from the client’s personal body measurements and design specifications.

I love to involve my clients in the design and development, making decisions together at almost every stage of the process. Today…hand bonding corded lace to the most beautiful shade of silk dupion.
